Dentists began spending more and more advertising as dentistry became more and more acceptable. Mr. Shunn noticed that some dentists were extremely successful with marketing but more of them were very frustrated with their results. They would switch advertising methods or find a new consultant. Mr. Shunn began helping some of his client-dentists who were struggling finding enough new patients without spending a fortune. About this time, 1-800-Dentist began operation. Many of his dentists tried 1-800-Dentist and were very disappointed...too expensive and not very many new patients. They did a tremendous amount of advertising and marketing. They were spending millions of dollars a month on nationwide promotion of their toll-free referral service. Their ads, however, did little or nothing to educate comsumers about the important of dentistry.

Mr. Shunn shunn started a similar service called Doctors of Dentistry Referral Service in San Diego County as an affordable service to help his dentists attract new patients for less. Indeed where are dentistry's public service ad campaigns. Where is the A.D.A.? My cassette player never worked the same after that.
